Establishing a regular art practice.
For most artists I know, one of the main challenges we face is finding enough time for our art practice. To find quality blocks of time within the week and make solid, regular progress on your art projects can be a challenge. We have to juggle our art between day jobs, family and social commitments, and then there’s the ever present household stuff.
What’s the solution? I’ve tried scheduling it into my diary, and this works, until it doesn’t – life gets in the way sometimes. I’ve tried dedicating whole days to be studio days, and they are good days, when they happen. Deadlines work, in that they kick your arse to prioritise every spare moment to the end cause. But that’s a tough way to get things done, and the enjoyment can quickly be sucked out of the project.
I don’t have the answer yet, but I look forward to the day when my time is truly my own, to spend as I choose, doing what I please. That is one of life’s true riches – the golden goal. I am making slow progress, and I am grateful for that.
